The only dog days this month are for the puppies, and community events are in full swing around town! August is a great time to venture out and participate in all the fun activities in our beautiful city. Below are some events we think you'll enjoy!



August 1st

Book Launch: Heather Webber, A Certain Kind of Starlight

The Snail on the Wall bookstore welcomes Heather Webber to Huntsville for a Book Launch celebrating her newest magical novel set in Alabama, A Certain Kind of Starlight. The event will be at The Snail on the Wall's new location, 816 Wellman Avenue, Huntsville, on Thursday, August 1.

August 2nd

Friday Night - Fun Night! Paint Your Partner Date Night or Friend Night!

The "Paint Your Partner" Date Night offers a unique and enjoyable experience for couples to unleash their creativity, share laughter, and create lasting memories together. Hosted at “The Happy Place”, Studio 270.

The Stolen Faces

The Stolen Faces will be at The Camp to kick off an amazing jam band weekend celebration!!! The show starts at 7 pm, and The Camp opens at NOON!

The Stolen Faces celebrates the music of The Grateful Dead - Come out and jam with us!!!


Shakespeare in the Garden: The Winter’s Tale

Join Huntsville Shakespeare at Huntsville Botanical Garden’s outdoor Amphitheatre on July 27, August 2, and August 10 at 7:30 p.m. (doors open at 6:30 p.m.) for Shakespeare’s captivating story of jealousy, forgiveness, and redemption: The Winter’s Tale.



August 3rd

The Dinner Detective Comedy Mystery Dinner Show - Decatur-Huntsville, AL

America’s largest interactive comedy murder mystery dinner theatre show is now playing! Solve a hilarious mystery while you feast on a fantastic dinner. Just beware! The culprit is hiding in plain sight somewhere in the room, and you may find yourself as a Prime Suspect before you know it! Events on August 3rd & 17th.

Foraging Hike at Harvest Square

In the height of summer, the fruits of the forest become harder to find, but all the sweeter in the hunt. Join Forager Casey Lanier on a slow-paced hike that will be determined the day of the event to discover what can be harvested from nature even in the scorch of August.

Guided Hike at Chapman Mountain

Come join us at the Chapman Mountain Nature Preserve as we hike the “high trails” of the preserve.

Second Saturday City Hall Art Tours

Be greeted by Cynthia Wagner and David Nuttall. Stroll by the eleven panels of Wagner's "Transformative Soil: Terra Firma" while discovering the iconic symbols woven into her work and learn about Nuttall’s upcoming installation of a hand-drawn nighttime map of Huntsville.



August 13th

Slash S.E.R.P.E.N.T. Festival with Larkin Poe, ZZ Ward, and Robert Randolph

SLASH is bringing his brand new S.E.R.P.E.N.T. Festival to cities across the U.S. in 2024. S.E.R.P.E.N.T. is an anagram and stands for Solidarity, Engagement, Restore, Peace, Equality N’ Tolerance. Starring SLASH on all dates, the festival is a celebration of the blues and will feature an all-star lineup that will vary by market. 


Josh Allison: Summer Concert Series at Ditto Landing Pavilion

Ditto Landing, the Huntsville Music Office, and Artemis Music Productions are excited to announce the Summer Sunset Concert Series every second Tuesday, June through September 6-8 PM. Come to the Ditto Landing Pavilion and enjoy local music along the Tennessee River. It’s open to the public with FREE admission.



August 15th

805 After Five

DHI is partnering with the Huntsville Music Office to bring a FREE concert series to Campus 805’s Butler Green Park. 805 After Five will feature a concert from a touring act, yard games, retail vendors, craft beer, food trucks, and more! 🍻


Kids Craft Club - Monthly STEAM Children's Classes

Get screen-free fun for your kids?  Our in-person craft classes are designed to ignite your child's imagination while fostering connections between like-minded parents like you.

To ensure individual attention, there are only 15 spots available per session.


Kitten Yoga

Join us for KITTEN YOGA at Cattyshack!

This will be a Restorative Yoga Class. This means most poses will be done on the ground and held for 3 to 5 minutes. This way the kittens and cats are not distracted, and you get plenty of interaction time with these furry creatures.

Dog Days 2024

Join us for an evening of live music, good eats, the famous Bad Puppy Punch, meeting some of our handler teams, and a silent auction! Funds raised support Therapy Partners, now in our 30th year of providing animal-assisted therapy throughout the community. Our volunteer handler teams have made more than 135,000 visits since 1994.

Downtown Foodtruck Rallies

Food Truck Rallies are back and better in Big Spring Park!

Grab your friends, family, or pets and head downtown to enjoy mouthwatering food truck vendors each month. Don't forget to bring a chair or blanket to sit, eat, and listen to live music. There will also be yard games and activities throughout the event season.

Happening every third Friday, May to October, from 5-9 PM. Check back each month for a map of the vendors!


Common Man EP Release

Full band in tow, this married dup will be sharing their latest songs and stories before embarking on a fall house concert tour!

Downtown Art Walks

Butler Green at 5 pm

Explore new scenes in beautiful Downtown Huntsville while shopping for art, jewelry, decor, treats, and more from over 50 local vendors! Each event is FREE to attend and will include live music, yard games, and kid-friendly activities. The locations are all in open entertainment districts, so you can grab a purple cup from a local establishment to sip on while you stroll.

Calhoun Community College Presents: The Common Read Kick-Off

Mark your calendars for Sunday, August 18! Join us under the Apollo South Dome for a free, family-friendly event focused on community building and disability awareness as Calhoun Community College kicks off its annual Common Read, built around this year’s selections of Alice Wong’s Disability Visibility and James McBride’s The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store. 

Finally, be sure to stick around for some music, as The Silver Silos close out the evening with a live performance. This event is 100% FREE to attend.

BRITTANY HOWARD & JASON ISBELL: IN CONVERSATION
